Abstract

A method is given for the quantitative evaluation of Digitalis purpurea glycosides directly from paper chromatograms using a reflectance densitometer. Attention is drawn to particular features in the technique which are essential for accuracy. Calibration graphs for pure glycosides are presented and from these a table of results of the major glycosides in several leaf samples has been calculated. The discussion compares the method with others available for direct densitometry.
